Bentonville living history program set for Saturday

Bentonville Battlefield Park will hold its summer seasonal living history program and artillery demonstration on June 7.
Visitors will be able to listen to Civil War re-enactors talk about camp life and the role of the common soldier. Living historians from the 1st and 11th N.C. regiments will present discussions on the weapons, tactics, and lifestyles of the common infantry soldier.
Discussions will be accompanied by a rifled-musket demonstration. Firing exhibitions are at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30. In between demonstrations, visitors can listen to discussions on uniforms and equipment, or walk through a small military camp. This living history program is designed to allow our visitors to interact with our costumed volunteers on a personal level as opposed to a conventional re-enactment. The program will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday only.
The high point of most any living history program is watching the cannons and visitors will be able to see and hear the big gun fire. A three-inch ordnance rifle, a typical Civil War fieldpiece, will be fired at 11:30, 1:30, and 3:30 p.m.
From Goldsboro, take U.S. 13 South or N.C. 55 to Newton Grove and then take U.S. 701 North to state road 1008. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. For information or directions, call (910) 594-0789.
