The Health Department will update its well restriction ordinance to comply with state rules being enacted July 1.
The Board of Health is expected to vote on the move at its June 18 meeting, said Kevin Whitley, director of environmental health.
"Nothing is going to change in how we handle our program .... We just need to update our ordinance to reflect the new rules," he said. "We want to continue the well ordinance that we have right now in its current form but we have to update it to incorporate the state rules."
The state's rules only cover drinking supplies, while the Health Department's ordinance also covers wells and irrigation systems, and permits for each, Whitley said.
"Basically nothing's changed but we're incorporating state permitting with our local ordinances," he said.
Copies of the rules have been posted at the county Clerk of Court's office. At the June meeting, there will also be a time for public comment on the matter before the board votes.
