Senior Center to offer chronic disease help

The Eastern Carolina Council Area Agency on Aging is teaming up with Wayne County Services on Aging to offer a chronic disease self-management program at the Wayne County Senior Center.

The workshop, which is designed to empower people to take control of their chronic conditions, will be held for six consecutive Tuesdays through June and July.

It will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m., beginning June 3.

Among the conditions it will address are, arthritis, lung disease, chronic heartburn, fibromyalgia, heart failure, heart disease, diabetes, renal failure, stroke, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, obesity and cancer.

It will teach people appropriate exercises for optimal health, how to manage their medications and nutrition, how to deal with their emotions, use their minds to manage symptoms and how to set goals and problem solve.
