Million Step March expected to reach Mount Olive Tuesday

The Million Step March that has traveled more than 450 miles of its 600-mile journey across the state will reach Mount Olive College on Tuesday, with a wellness rally planned from 3-6 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to take a tour of the mobile wellness unit, meet the walkers, and join other activities and demonstrations. The puboic is invited to attend.

As part of the statewide campaign, representatives from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina are walking from Asheville to Wilmington to promote the benefits of physical activity.

Thousands of North Carolinians have made positive physical activity steps on their own by signing up at the march's Web site - www. BetterHealthNC.com - and by logging their own physical activity. To date, more than 6,200 people have logged more than 430 million steps on the site.

The campaign started in Asheville on April 1.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 58 percent of North Carolinians do not get the recommended levels of physical activity.*
