The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce has two events planned in June to try to connect local businesses to customers.

The chamber will have its annual Expo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2 at the Goldsboro Country Club.

Open to the public, the Expo is an opportunity for Goldsboro and area residents to learn more about local businesses and their products.

"We want to promote local shopping," said Patty Gra-ham, chamber spokesperson. "We want people to spend their money here to help our local economy."

Chamber officials expect more than 1,000 people at this year's event. About 80 spaces are available for businesses. Call 734-2241 for more information on booth prices.

The chamber, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Small Business Center and the Military Business Center of Wayne Community College and the Exchange Club of Goldsboro will also hold a trade show to help small businesses -- businesses with less than 500 employees -- learn how to sell to governmental agencies on June 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Goldsboro Country Club. The cost is $250 per table, which includes the table, chairs and lunch for two.

Ms. Graham said that $45 million in purchases are projected from the government this year that will go to small business. She said seminars will also be held at the trade show to teach businesses about the bid process and other areas of the governmental agencies' buying process.

The trade show is not open to the public.
