Two Wayne Community College employees were recognized at this year's N.C. Community College System Minority Male Mentoring Conference.

Janice Fields Johnson, a counselor and minority affairs coordinator in the student development department, and Ray Burrell, head of the business and computer technology division, were honored for the leadership and outstanding contributions to the system's Minority Male Mentoring Program.

Both are advisors to the college's group, and Mrs. Johnson is a founding advisor of My Sister's Keeper, a female mentoring program.

The purpose of the Minority Male Mentoring project, launched in 2003, is to increase graduation and retention rates among minority males attending community colleges in North Carolina.
