WCC Phi Theta Kappa awards

Upsilon Chi, Wayne Community College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, recently received more than a dozen awards at its annual regional conference.
In addition, member Michelle Rogers was named 2008 vice-president of the Carolinas Region Alumni Association.
The chapter earned "Five Star" certification, the highest level possible, for setting and achieving levels of participation in society programs. Only 16 of the 77 chapters in the Carolinas Region earned the ranking.
In the "Carolinas Keeping the Carolinas Green" category, WCC was a "Four Clover" winner. The chapter participated in service programs dealing with education/awareness, recycling, beautification and clean communities.
The chapter was also named a "Carolinas Super Star" for outstanding performance in programming and participation in regional and international events.
Individual awards went to Jessica Bravo, college transfer major, a "Scholarship Hallmark" honorable mention; Michelle Rogers, college transfer, a "Best Use of Honors Topic" honorable mention; and Rebecca Mooney, nursing major, a "Craig Pullen Leadership Hallmark Award."
Wendy Womble, a medical assisting major, received a "Bruce E. Rallis Service Award" honorable mention for the chapter's service project. She also received a "Distinguished Chapter Officer" award and was named a member of the Carolinas Hall of Honor.
Chapter advisors Tara Bass and Lorie Waller were presented "Horizon Awards," given to new advisors who participate in regional and international programs. Mrs. Bass was also given a "Paragon Award for New Advisors," recognizing advisors serving less than five years who have contributed to the development of chapter members, inspired them to participate in chapter programs and led the chapter to participate on the regional level.
