Mackenzie Gurley, the daughter of Tammy Weaver and Robbie Gurley, of Virginia, and the granddaughter of Dale and Beth Rumbley of Dudley, picks strawberries Tuesday at Cottle Farms in the Mar-Mac community. Cooperative Extension agent Kevin Johnson said growers likely had to irrigate their fields last night, and perhaps will have to do so again tonight to protect them from the cold but that most were expecting a good crop. Johnson said a few berries were already at the harvesting stage but that most farmers will have strawberries ready to pick in a week or two.
