Bill Clinton to speak Saturday

Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Goldsboro.
Campaigning on behalf of his wife, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, who is running for the Democratic nomination for president, Clinton is scheduled to appear at Eastern Wayne High School at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
It is one of eight "Solutions for America" events being held in eastern North Carolina over the weekend.
It will be, North Carolina campaign spokeswoman Carly Lindauer explained, a "rally-type event," in which Clinton typically comes in, makes a few remarks about Ms. Clinton and her positions, meets and greets the crowd and then leaves. It will likely last about an hour.
"It's very rare for him not to shake some hands," she said.
She did not know if there would be any sort of question-and-answer opportunities.
His remarks, though, will follow the theme of "Solutions for America," which has really been the theme of the whole campaign.
"They speak a lot about not only the issues the country is facing, but also about real ways to solve them," she said.
And, she added, by coming to eastern North Carolina, the campaign is hoping to connect those issues and their solutions to local voters.
"We just want to make sure we are talking to people all across the state because I think we have some real solutions to the issues a lot of people are facing not only in North Carolina, but across the country," Ms. Lindauer said.
The Goldsboro event will be sandwiched in between an 11:30 a.m. stop at Barton College in Wilson and a 3:15 p.m. stop at South Lenoir High School in Deep Run.
Other events will be held in Roanoke Rapids and Rocky Mount on Friday, and on Saturday in Winterville, New Bern and Jacksonville.
Ms. Clinton is running against U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, who also recently sent a surrogate to campaign in Goldsboro at Wilber's Barbecue -- Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle.
