Clarification

Stantonsburg police attempted to locate the scene of a fatal accident Sunday morning but received misguided directions, officials said Monday. The officer who recieved the initial call attempted to find the site but was told it was on N.C. 222, not Red Hill Road. After being unable to find the wreck, the officer contacted Wayne authorities, who located it Sunday afternoon.

Nightclub attack

Goldsboro police reported a 20-year-old suffered severe cuts Sunday after being hit with a glass cup at an East Ash Street bar. John Wangler of the Camp LeJeune Marine Corps base reportedly had "severe lacerations" from the attack and was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital on Sunday night. Police reported Wangler did not know his attacker.

Armed robbery

A Fremont Kangaroo clerk reported being robbed at gunpoint at the chain's location in the 200 block of U.S. 70 East on Sunday night, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said. A black male reportedly used a shotgun to take 39 packs of Newport cigarettes and $30 cash, according to a report.

Clarification

Durwood J. Smith, 65, of Antioch Road, wants it known that neither he nor his son, Durwood J. Smith II, 33, is related to Durwood Eugene Smith of Fremont who was chargd with arson at the Charles B. Aycock Birthplace.
