Arson attempt
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office suspects arson in a Monday evening fire at the Woodcroft Drive home of Angie Sollars, according to a report. A flower box under a window was set on fire, causing $2,000 in damages to the exterior of the residence, a report shows.
Brush fire at church
A Goldsboro fire official said a brush fire at St. James Church of Christ at 603 West Spruce Street on Monday night was probably an accident. Chief Alvin Ward said fire was mostly contained to pine straw, bushes and other landscaping. However, the blaze scarred the building, Ward said. The exterior damage amounted to as much as $2,000 in damages, authorities said. The case was turned over to Goldsboro police for further investigation, Ward said.
