MAR-MAC -- A burglar who awoke a Devonshire Drive couple while stealing beer and cash was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

Thomislav and Diana Senzel told Sheriff's Office detectives a man broke into their home the night of March 6, according to department records.

Jason Wayne Schiller, 35, Knollwood Drive was charged with first-degree burglary and larceny after breaking or entering the Senzel's home, a release said.

"(Senzel) stated his wife was awakened by a barking dog, and heard a man's voice trying to quiet the dog," Capt. Tom Effler said.

Mrs. Senzel saw the man leaving the house after stealing $50 and Budweiser beer, according to the police report.

Because the Senzels were reportedly at home during the incident, Schiller's offense is first-degree burglary, according to state law.

Schiller is also charged with felonious larceny, according to a release.

Anything stolen after breaking and entering is felony-level larceny, regardless of the value of the stolen items.

First-degree burglary is a Class D felony, according to state statute.

Class D felonies are punishable by a maximum of about 12 years incarceration for most offenders, and a minimum of about four years jail time.

A magistrate jailed Schiller under a $21,000 secured bond, Effler said.
