Vendors sought for Seven Springs festival

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Vendors and parade entries are being sought for the Eighth Annual Ole Timey Days Festival, which will be held on Saturday, May 10 in downtown Seven Springs.
With a population of about 70, the whole town is downtown. And there will be plenty of designated parking in the empty FEMA lots the town has taken over since the 1999 flood that resulted from Hurricane Floyd.
The town has been celebrating its survival and its heritage ever since with the Ole Timey Days Festival. Originally called Whitehall, it's the oldest town in Wayne County.
Town officials plant to make a day of it, with the festival beginning at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony and presentation of the Gladys Potter Community Service Award.
A parade will be held at 3:30 p.m. Other activities planned for the event include a small car show, antique tractors, a pie and cake baking contest, a Kids Corner with a coloring contest, a candle making demonstration and an Adopt-A-Pet drive.
Barbecue plates will be sold to help raise money for future festivals.
The festival committee is also planning a street dance on Main Street from 8 until 11 p.m. and is looking for a live band.
Donations are welcome. To contribute to the Ole Timey Days Festival, checks can be made payable to the Town of Seven Springs with a memo saying "Ole Timey Days." And to sign up as a vendor or parade entry, call Town Hall at 569-5241 on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
