City Council to discuss property requests

New condominiums, a new enterainment venue and a new auto dealership and an annexation request are among the property concerns Goldsboro City Council members will hear at their meeting Monday.
Five public hearings are scheduled for the meeting.
The first will help the council determine whether the Borden Lofts project will continue. Araneum, LLC has requested that a zoning change be made to the property located on the east and west sides of North William Street between Royall Avenue and Tarboro Street from general industry to residential. The residential zone would permit renovation of the old Borden Manufacturing Co. buildings for approximately 129 loft condominiums.
The second hearing will deal with a rezoning request for property located on the northeast corner of West Grantham Street and Elizabeth Street. The applicant, Redco Properties, LLC, is requesting that the zoning be changed from general business and watershed protection to highway business and watershed protection to allow a wide variety of commercial and highway-oriented uses such as a high-rise advertising sign. The current zoning would not permit the sign. The property is currently vacant but was formerly the Wayne Motel.
The third public hearing will consider a request for a conditional use permit for property located on the east side of South James Street between Spruce Street and Pine Street. The permit would allow the operation of a "place of entertainment" with no alcohol permits. Previously, Henry L. Battle, the applicant, requested a conditional use permit to operate the entertainment venue with alcohol permits, but was denied by the City Council on Feb. 5. The property is the site of the former Elk's Club.
The fourth hearing will be held about a conditional use permit requested by Bobby Reavis for property on the northwest corner of East Ash Street and Daisy Street. The site is the former location of Snipes Ford dealership. The permit would allow for the site to be used as two automobile sales offices. There will be no service or repair of automobiles at this location. A total of 14 vehicles are to be displayed on the site.
Hours for the used car lot will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The last hearing will be held for a contiguous annexation request by Ivey Family Prop-erties, LLC for property located on the east side of N.C. 111 South between U.S. 70 East and Ditchbank Road.
The council will also discuss the purchase of maintenance equipment for the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course, contractual services for the Recreation and Parks Department Comprehensive Master Plan and golf course committee appointments.
In other business, council will discuss informal bids for lead and asbestos abatement, financial assistance from the state's mosquito control, a position for a senior human resources analyst, budget amendments and departmental reports.
