County science fair winners announced

The annual science fair for Wayne County Public School produced 12 winners who will now progress to the regional fair in Wilmington on Feb. 16.
The local fair, held Feb. 2 at Eastern Wayne High School, was for students who had already earned honors at their individual schools. Winners were then selected from K-2, grades 3-5, middle school and high school divisions. At the middle and high school levels, categories were divided into earth, life, physical and technological areas, plus a team division for high school.
Results are listed below:
Grades K-2
1st Place: James Davis, Eastern Wayne Elementary
2nd Place: Hunter Thompson, Meadow Lane Elementary
3rd Place: Kyle Candy, Eastern Wayne Elementary
Grades 3-5
1st Place: Shianne Blakeney, Meadow Lane Elementary
2nd Place: Marcus Ingram, Meadow Lane Elementary
3rd Place: Alexis Brown, Fremont Elementary
Grades 6-8
Earth: Austin Walker, Norwayne Middle, first place; Blake Weaver, Rosewood Middle, second; and Kirk Reader, Eastern Wayne Middle, third
Life: David Joyner, Grantham School, first; Jalesia Claxton, Greenwood Middle, second; and Nathan Huyser, Rosewood Middle, third
Physical: Myra Waheed, Norwayne Middle, first; Madeline Edwards, Eastern Wayne Middle, second; and Cierra Harris, Norwayne Middle, third
Technological: Sarah Moore, Eastern Wayne Middle, first; and Joshua Vandiford, second
Grades 9-12
Life: Valorie Bailey, Charles B. Aycock High, first
