Copper thefts

Thieves have been busy stealing copper piping around the city. Two businesses and a homeowner reported thefts of copper in the past few days.

*Batesville Casket Company at 711 told police that someone did $400 damage to the building's heating and air conditioning units in order to steal $25 worth of copper pipe.

*N.C. Mobility at 401 Royall Ave. reported $1,500 worth of damage was done to three heating and air conditioning units to steal $150 worth of copper pipe.

*Copper pipe was also reported taken from under Emmette Swinson's house on Gulley Street. Swinson, 78, didn't know how much copper pipe was taken, because he could not get under the house.

Investigations

*Teasers at 2106 U.S. 117 South reported three pool tables damaged with a sharp metal object. Damage came to $875.

*Joseph Wilson Earls of Bolling Drive told police somebody used his personal information to buy a car without his permission.
