Veteran administrator Eddie Radford has been named principal at Southern Wayne High School, officials announced.

Radford takes over for Tim Harrell, principal since 2006, who accepted a position as assistant principal at Princeton High School. His departure was reported last month, pending the district naming a replacement.

Southern Wayne is familiar territory for Radford, who began his career there in 1973 teaching biology, physical education and driver's education. After 20 years at the school, he was named assistant principal in 1993, then principal in 1995.

He retired from the school system in 2002, then accepted a job as headmaster at Wayne Country Day School, where he served from 2003-2005.

In June 2005, he returned to the public schools as assistant principal at Goldsboro High School for six months before taking over the reins as principal at Charles B. Aycock. He was there for two years.
