The flag now waving outside Rosewood High School had previously been flown in an F-15E Strike Eagle during a combat mission over Afghanistan.

Staff sergeant Leslie Williams, a volunteer coach for Rosewood Youth Sports and a member of the 33h Expeditionary Fighter Squadron "Rocketeers" had the flag flown in honor of the school when she was deployed earlier this year.

The flag was presented to the school this week on behalf of Williams by Stuart Kornegay, Rosewood High's booster club chair. The school's junior ROTC took on duties to raise the flag.

According to a letter written by Staff Sgt. Williams, the flag was flown in the 336 Fighter Squadron flagship. Each aircraft, named after a state, she wrote, "and I saw it fitting that it be flown in the aircraft 'Carolina.'"

The flag will be displayed as a shown of appreciation for the local military community, said David Lewis, RHS principal.

In January, it will be presented to the school board, after which time principals at other high schools in the county will be given the opportunity to request the flag be flown at their schools.
