DGDC board discusses upcoming year

The Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. Board of Directors met Wednesday to discuss past events and ones to come.
The organization held a gala last Friday night to show their support for Preservation North Carolina.
PNC is a private, nonprofit statewide historic preservation organization, and its mission is to protect and promote buildings, landscapes and sites important to the heritage of the state.
The gala was held for historic home owners, those interested in improving the downtown area and PNC members.
Overall, about 150 people attended, and the preliminary numbers show that the gala raised about $6,000 in ticket sales and extra donations for PNC.
The Historic Homes Tour and Preservation Convention was last Saturday, and it raised $2,500.
A few PNC houses were opened for the tour to try to get people interested, and it worked.
DGDC Director Julie Thompson said that they think they have sold one of the houses and have interest in the other houses because of the tour.
The DGDC's annual retreat is coming up, and the board looked at locations to have it.
One suggestion was Mount Airy, which is where Borden Lofts part-owner Tom Webb lives. The town has a very preservation-driven progress, and board members believed it would be a great place to visit.
Jazz on George was also discussed and will be April 19 this year. Shawnette Beatty, Starlight Dance Band and Julian Nixon will perform.
The board also discussed a facade grant for property located on the corner of Ash and George streets in the former Piggly-Wiggly location. The owner of the property wishes to beautify the front facade of the building that will include room for three new businesses. The cost of the facade improvement will be around $48,000, and Mrs. Thompson believed the owner would be a great recipient of a $10,000 facade grant, which members from the executive committee approved.
