Goldsboro will get a teen club beginning Tueseday at the Boys & Girls Club.
Teen Director Willemina Williams at the club at 1401 Royall Avenue said she was touched by the pleas of teenagers who asked permission from the City Council for such a gathering place but were turned down.
"The kids don't have anywhere to go in Goldsboro," Mrs. Williams said. "Basically, they have to go from friend's house to friend's house."
Starting Tueday, the game room and the gym at the facility will be open to the teen club members, boys and girls from 13 to 18.
"We want to know if there is interest in coming here twice a week to hang out and plan things like talent shows, fashion shows and basketball tournaments," Mrs. Williams said.
Two staff members will be on hand each of the two nights, Tuesday and Thursday each week. The hours will be 6 until 9 p.m.
During the day, Mrs. Williams works with about 25 teenagers, and she said they have all been recruiting their friends to join up and come to the teen club on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Membership for a year is $5.
