A Wayne County Public Schools' teacher has been selected to travel to the Middle East to cultivate greater awareness and understanding of the region and its education system.

Kay Brimmage, media coordinator at Dillard Middle School, was one of 25 educators nationwide chosen to participate in the "Educators to Saudi Arabia Program."

The 10-day study abroad program centers around education, culture, history and global relation through visits and activites in the cities of Dhahran, Riyadh and Jeddah.

The excursion began mid-November, with Ms. Brimmage expected back at the school later this week.

Prior to her departure, she said she was excite about the educational opportunity and what she could share upon her return.

"Although there are many cultural differences between the U.S. and the Middle East, I hope by collaborating with educators there, that we can share successful teaching practices and take from each other methods that may work with our students," she said.

In the meantime, photos and information about her trip are being posted on the school system's website at www.waynecountyschools.org.
