Wayne County Reads Web site up and running

The Wayne County Reads Committee has erected a Web site for its 2008 season at www.waynecountyreads.com.
The committee, co-chaired by Tara Humphries of Wayne Community College and Kim Huskins Webb of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Library, has had to share space on the Wayne County Public Library's Web site for the four previous Wayne County Reads projects.
Ms. Humphries said it's going to be good having a Web site of their own. And it will be updated often.
"We're always adding items up to the last minute," she said.
The next Wayne County Reads book is "Blood Done Sign My Name, a true story by Timothy Tyson about the murder of a black man in Oxford, N.C.
Wayne County Library Director Jane Rustin, a member of the Wayne County Reads Committee, said the book deals with a difficult and painful time in a small town that isn't that far from Wayne County.
"It's a very readable book, but the themes are difficult. The reality of what happened is difficult," she said. "The book tells how it affected his family and how his father, Rev. Vernon Tyson, dealt with the issue in his church."
This is the second book that came about as a Wayne County Reads project by public vote. The public favored two with a very close vote. The other book was "Walking Across Egypt," which was the 2007 choice for Wayne County Reads.
The timing of the 2008 choice is a good fit, Ms. Humphries said, because the events are starting at Martin Luther King's Birthday and going through Black History Month.
