Wayne chosen for state's early college application program

Wayne County high school students are being encouraged to pursue college after graduation, with the district being chosen to participate in a statewide initiative to begin the application process early in their senior year.
For three days this past week, the seven public high schools were given the opportunity to participate in the 2007 North Carolina College Application Week, allowing seniors the opportunity to apply to college at no cost.
The goal of the project is to make the application process available to all students, said Renee Dilda, lead counselor for the school system.
Wayne County was among the 100 schools across the state chosen to be part of the project.
"We are excited to have our high schools selected to participate in this statewide event," Mrs. Dilda said. "Individual high schools will be conducting a variety of activities associated with college application throughout the week, such as parent information nights, trivia contests and college spirit day."
College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNA) and the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers are co-sponsoring the event.
