Weekend of fellowship, fun coming to Mount Olive College

MOUNT OLIVE -- Hundreds of alumni are expected to return to their alma mater Nov. 16-18 to participate in Mount Olive College's annual Homecoming Weekend.
Festivities will kick off with a business breakfast briefing on Friday at 7:30 a.m. in the Henessee Room of the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. Dr. Kenneth Stokes, dean of the Tillman School of Business, will discuss new developments in the school. The cost is $15.
The 11th annual Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will have a shotgun start at 12:05 p.m. at Southern Wayne Country Club. The cost for the 18-green Superball tournament is $48 per person.
At 1 p.m. the fourth annual Alumni Science Luncheon, hosted by the Henderson Science Club, will meet in the Hennessee Room. Nathaniel Grubbs, a 2005 graduate of Mount Olive College, will speak on "Embryonic Development: Insights from Insects." The cost for lunch is $5.
Friday and Saturday evenings, the 42nd annual Pickle Classic Tournament will be held in Kornegay Arena. Tickets are $10 for both nights; children 4 and younger are admitted free.
Friday night's tip-off begins at 6 p.m. with King College vs. West Virginia State University, followed by Mount Olive College vs. Wingate University at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the first game begins at 4:30 p.m. between Wingate University and King College. At 6:30, Mount Olive College will take on West Virginia State University.

For the exercise enthusiast, the Henderson Science Club and the Recreation Majors Club are jointly hosting a Cystic Fibrosis 2K walk/5K run on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
The MOC softball team will have a breakfast fundraiser at Andy's Cheesesteaks and Cheeseburgers from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
At 9:45 a.m. in the archives room of the communications building, the Alumni Continental Breakfast Reception will be held. The Alumni Board will also convene for its annual business meeting, at which time the 50th and 25th reunion classes will be recognized.
Dedication of the Lois G. Britt Agribusiness Center will be held in Raper Hall at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow in the alumni dining hall of Lois K. M urphy Regional Center.
The college bookstore will be open on Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. There will also be an open house from 1 to 4 p.m., with the public invited to tour the newest buldings. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the campus and meet with an admissions representative in the Poole Administration Building.
Several activities and seminars taking place at 1 p.m. on Saturday include: an art exhibit featuring recent works by Larry D. Lean, professor of art at MOC; class reunions; an estate planning workshop; a 50-inning Trojan Softball game; and a Trojan women's basketball game against Francis Marion University in the Kornegay Arena.
The seventh annual Criminal Justice Seminar begins at 1 p.m. with Teresa Manley Cox of the Goldsboro Police Department. At 2, Julie Beck will present her Australia Travelogue, while Ann Peacock facilitates a Career Changes workshop. The Science Instrument Room dedication will be in the W. Burkette and Rose M. Raper Hall at 2:30.
Two MOC alumni and two former coaches will be recognized during the second Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the Hennessee Room at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. To attend, RSVP by Nov. 13 to Tina Parks at 658-7759.
The alumni awards dinner will start at 4:30 in the alumni dining hall in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. Following the Pickle Classic Championship Game that night, all alumni are invited to the Southern Wayne Country Club for the "Decades of Music" party.
The culmination of the weekend will take place on Sunday morning with a memorial service at the alumni cross walk, followed by a 10 a.m. worship service in Rodgers Chapel. A Sunday buffet will be served at 11:30 a.m.
