Churches donate $87,461 to college

MOUNT OLIVE -- An estimated $87,461 in financial gifts were donated to Mount Olive College this past year by Free Will Baptist churches in Wayne County.
The Convention of Original Free Will Baptists established Mount Olive College in 1951 as one of its ministries and has given strong support throughout its 56-year history.
During the recent annual college dinner, 272 representatives from area churches presented their gifts, with 219 designated as Bridge Builders for contributing a gift of $100 or more.
Two churches received special recognition at the dinner. Stoney Creek FWB Church was recognized for giving the largest contribution and May's Chapel FWB Church was noted for giving the most per capita and for having the most high school students at the dinner.
Jean F. Ackiss, director of church support, coordinated the event and presided over the program. "Every time you give to Mount Olive College, you are making an investment in the lives of the students we serve," she said.
"Free Will Baptists are helping to make a difference in the lives of more than 5,000 students at Mount Olive College this year," said Dr. J. William Byrd, president.
"Through the years, MOC has transformed itself in many ways. One thing that has never changed, and never will, is the college's commitment to helping students transform themselves, and achieve goals that might have seemed unreachable. Mount Olive College provides students a foundation for learning and for living."
