Jones will stay mayor of Fremont

Fremont Mayor Devone Jones earned a a second term in office Tuesday -- by a margin of eight votes.
Former Wayne County Schools Superintendent W. Darron Flowers finished with 92 votes and and physician Amy V. Price received 76.
"I'm so proud of the people in Fremont," Jones said. "They looked at what has been going on for the last two years, and they think Fremont is looking better and they understood it. They wanted me to be the mayor for another four years."
Jones said his goals after re-election still include sprucing up the town's look and trying to improve utility bills for residents.
"I want to improve the town ... by trying to control the drugs and the gangs, and improve the town beautification, improve the water and sewer and improve those bills, and I want to get all my people in Fremont to work together," Jones said.
Flowers noted the low turnout.
"The shame is this is their government, this is the one that they really ... are directly impacted by. This should be the most important election," Flowers said.
Mrs. Price said voters said they wanted to stay with Fremont's current leadership.
"I think those people (voters) said they wanted to go one with what they had," Mrs. Price said. "I think we probably needed a better turnout, but if you can't get them out, you can only do the best you can."
