Harvey, Lewis tie for seat on Fremont Town Board

The only contested race in Fremont turned out to be a tie.
District 1 incumbent Billy Harvey and challenger Al Lewis both garnered 11 votes in that race.
If the numbers stand up after the canvass, the winner will be chosen by lot, according to state election law.
Incumbent candidates were elected in all unopposed races.
District 2 Alderman Leon Mooring got 33 votes, or 92 percent of votes cast.
"I want to go ahead and see what we can do about finishing up this sewer project, and see if we can lower the sewer rate, and also see if we can't lower the electrical rate for the citizens," Mooring said after preliminary results were in.
District 3 Alderman W.T. Smith got 54 votes, or 96 percent of votes cast.
"We'll keep working on the sewer lines like we've been doing, trying to lower the sewer bills in Fremont and working on the drug problem that we have," Smith said,
District 4 Alderman Harold Cuddington garnered 54 votes, or 87 percent of participating voters.
Cuddington could not be reached for comment after the preliminary results were made final.
District 5 Alderman Leroy took 20 votes, or 100 percent of participating voters.
"We're trying to get Fremont to become one city. It's kind of divided in a sense, but if everyone worked together Fremont could become one great city," Ruffin said after being informed of the results.
District 6 Alderman Annie R. Lewis garnered 27 votes, or 100 percent of participating voters.
"(My goal is) to see that Fremont grows. As far as businesses, and to get all of our community leaders involved in all the projects that we have in Fremont."
