Fall events planned this weekend

The Parks and Recreation Department will embrace the cooler weather by sponsoring two activities this coming weekend -- a Fall Festival and a Nature Day.
This Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Herman Park Center, the fall festival will include carnival games, horseback riding, inflatables, a petting zoo and other entertainment. Hot dogs, chips and refreshments will be served as well.
Fall Festival admission will be $3 per person and will include all activities and food.
Nature Day will be held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Stoney Creek Park to help the public get better-acquainted with the current park as well as what the park will look like in the future.
Parks and Recreation director Sonya Shaw and Stoney Creek Park Alliance chairman Peter Roethling will open the event with a welcome talk about the park. At 2:15 p.m., activities will begin, followed by a presentation from the park design consultants from Kimley-Horne.
Activities will include park tours, trail route tours, relay and inflatable games by Girl Scout Troop N0. 627 and some musical entertainment. The Wayne County Humane Society will have dog obedience training, and Eskabonna Henderson, a science teacher from Dillard Middle School, will have a science demonstration. The Fraternal Order of Police will have Ident-A-Kid, and the Goldsboro Fire Department will be there with their Smoke House. Wayne County Ranger Dwight Bryant and the WATCH mobile van will have exhibits as well.
Food vendors will also be at the event.
Those attending Nature Day are encouraged to park on Randolph Street and towards the back of the park for safety reasons.
