Educators planning 'McTeachers' night October 16

School staffs and teachers will soon put on aprons and play host to their students and parents as part of "McTeachers' Night" at McDonalds restaurants around the county.
On Tuesday, Oct. 16, the one-night fundraiser will support the schools by providing a portion of the night's proceeds between 5 and 8 p.m.
School principals, teachers and parents will "work" at four McDonalds around the county, greeting customers, manning the registers, serving drinks and in some cases, assisting with food preparation.
Finding creative ways to bring in support funds is always a challenge, said Wendy Hooks, principal at Brogden Primary School in Dudley.
"With McTeachers' Night, it's a great way for parents, students and the school staff to connect for dinner and add some money to our budget," she said. "The appeal is a one-night event that is easy to execute and goes a long way to help our school and classrooms with this year's curriculum needs."
Wade Dixon, owner/operator of the restaurant in Goldsboro, said McTeacher's Night is a positive way to assist educators and help local schools raise funds. In the past few years, more than $350,000 has been raised during the event, he said.
The event will be held at the McDonalds on Wayne Memorial Drive, supporting Eastern Wayne Elementary School; U.S. 117, supporting Brogden Primary; Berkeley Blvd., supporting Meadow Lane Elementary; and U.S. 70 West, supporting Rosewood Elementary.
