Sexual assault

A 25-year-old Goldsboro-area woman was sexually assuaulted after a man forced his way into her home Sunday evening, authorities say.

Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, lawmen were called to a residence near the Hickory Hills subdivision off of Dallas Road near N.C. 111 South, Wayne County Sheriff's Captain Tom Effler said.

The woman peeked out her door when the man knocked, and he forced his way into the residence, Effler said.

A witness saw the man enter the home and called authorities, Effler said. Officers arrived at the home not long after the call.

"The assault had already occurred," Effler said, and the suspect got away.

Authorities said they had no indication that the suspect used a vehicle to escape.

The victim was home alone, but the captain did not know if she lived by herself, he said.

The suspect is described as a brown-eyed black male with short hair between the ages of 18 and 25, about 6-feet 1-inches tall, Effler said.

There is no indication that the woman knew the suspect, Effler said.
