Man killed in Mount Olive shooting

MOUNT OLIVE -- A 34-year-old Mount Olive man died Monday afternoon from gunshot wounds he received in front of his aunt's home on Kornegay Street, police officials said.
Tamorris Raynor is the town's third murder victim this year, said Chief Ralph Schroeder.
After the incident, police began combing the area in search of the suspect, who witnesses described as a "short, black male."
Schroeder said the shooting occurred at 105 S. Kornegay St. and that investigators were still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.
"What our information shows is that he went to his car, and the subject came around from the side of the house and opened fire," he said. "The victim and the suspect had a discussion earlier. He ran back to a car and that is when the incident happened."
Several people in the neighborhood gave police descriptions of the suspect, who drove off in what they described as a dark-colored, possibly charcoal gray, Lincoln SS.
"Right now, we're still trying to locate the person and the vehicle," Schroeder said.
Some residents who attended the town's board meeting last night said they were "very concerned" about continued violence in the community -- that they had heard the shooting was a "drive-by."
And while at least one bullet penetrated the exterior of the home, Schroeder said there was no evidence of such an incident.
"This wasn't a drive-by shooting," he said.
An autopsy was being performed on the body today in Chapel Hill.
