MOUNT OLIVE -- The Wayne-Duplin Business and Professional Women's Club is accepting nominations for Career Woman of the Year.
The deadline for nominations is Oct. 1, and on Oct. 4 at 6:15 p.m., the membership will vote on a winner during their regular dinner meeting in the Pizza Village Restaurant on Breazeale Avenue.
All area working women in Duplin, Wayne and surrounding counties are eligible to participate. The nominees should be working women or business owners at least 35 years old. The nomination must include biographical information and accompany a nomination form available from Verna Taylor, the event chairman. She can be reached by calling 910-267-9241 or faxing 910-267-9242 or e-mail vernataylor@embarqmail.com.
Ms. Taylor's daughter, Sandra Torrans of the local club, won the state Career Woman of the Year Award in June at Concord. The local group named Ms. Torrans Career Woman of the Year in October. You don't have to be a BPW member to apply or be nominated for the award, although Ms. Torrans was.
A business or an individual may nominate a candidate by obtaining the form and completing it.
"Everybody knows some outstanding business woman in your company or community that deserves this honor and special recognition," Ms. Taylor said.
The candidate chosen Career Woman of the Year will be somebody who elevates the standards for women in business, brings about a spirit of cooperation among business women, promotes the interests of women in business and extends opportunities to other women.
