Girl Scout leader honored

Vivian Wharton of Goldsboro received the Girl Scout Silver Seagull Award from the Girl Scout Council of Coastal Carolina.
A longtime supporter of Girl Scouting in the Wayne County area, Mrs. Wharton has played a key role in helping to reach the council's fund development goal of increased financial resources.
She also was cited for having demonstrated community leadership through her participation in a fundraising model designed to establish a multi-year giving program in Goldsboro.
Her work has helped raise the visibility of Girl Scouting in the area as well as make it financially possible for the Scouting program to grow and develop. Her dedication is an example to others, Scouting officials said.
"She does what she does, not to receive recognition, but to make a difference in her community," said Marilyn Cantarella, development director for the council.
