Walnut Creek council discusses lakes, traffic

The Walnut Creek Village Council met Wednesday night to discuss improvements to the village.
Among those were issues with Lake Wackena and Spring Lake, lift stations, recreation areas and traffic.
Village Administrator Lou Cook told the council that the lake will have increased surveillance to keep people who are not permitted to use the lake from doing so. At the council's last meeting, council members and residents expressed problems with parking around the lake and people utilizing it that they did not know.
Council member Kathy Daniels brought up issues with the lake's lift station. If the lift stations fill up, wastewater could spill into the lake, Cook said.
Ms. Daniels said that she wanted the council to approve the replacement or repair of two lift stations that often cause minor problems.
"Those lift stations are very antiquated," Mayor Ken Ritt said. "The engineers said they were in dire need of repair."
The council approved the request and asked Cook to start looking for possible grants to help fund the project.
In other business, Cook said the village's new playground equipment has arrived and will be set up this week or next.
During the public comment period, a resident told the council that she has had problems meeting drivers who have crossed over the center on village streets, especially in curves. She was almost in an accident just the other day, she said, and said she was worried that an accident could easily happen on Dogwood Trail. The council then discussed adding center lines to the unmarked roads in the village.
