Pickup driver killed in Kenly accident

A Kenly man died Wednesday after his pickup ran into a log truck parked on a town street.
Cpl. G.W. Strong of the Kenly Police Department said Dallas Purvis Jr., who lived just outside of Kenly, was headed west on Second Street at 8:45 a.m., when his pickup ran into the back of a log truck owned by Willie B. Fryar, 67, of Dudley, which was parked on the roadway.
Strong said Fryar was cited for leaving a parked vehicle on a roadway. He added that the case was still under investigation.
Police didn't have an exact age for Purvis, whose pickup was a total loss, but said he was born in 1933.
The 18-wheeler log truck was empty at the time of the accident, Strong said.
Strong said Purvis died at the scene, but an emergency medical technician said Purvis may still have been alive when rescuers first arrived.
"The EMT that first responded said he got a pulse initially," Strong said. "Shortly after he lost that pulse."
Purvis was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, Strong said.
