The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for allegedly poisoning dogs with anti-freeze in the Grantham community. Four dogs are dead and one survived after emergency treatment and hospitalization. A test administered by the treating veterinarian detected ethylene glycol, which is found in anti-freeze. All five dogs showed signs of anti-freeze ingestion.
Ethylene glycol, the main ingredient in almost all major anti-freeze brands, has an inviting aroma, a sweet flavor. Its appealing smell and taste often tempt animals and children to drink the highly poisonous substance.
Wayne County Animal Control is investigating the case.

Thefts
*Someone broke into Barwick's Produce in Mount Olive and stole a Sony Playstation game system, video games, watermelons and cash, all valued at $616.
Breaking and entering
*Someone broke into Wayne Opportunity Center on South George Street through an air vent and tried to steal money from a snack machine, damaging the air vent and the snack machine. Total damage was estimated at $1,250.
