Children living in the Village of Walnut Creek will soon have a new place to spend their summer days.
Construction on a new playground facility -- located at the site of the existing one -- will begin early next month, and the village hopes the project will be finished two weeks after that.
"It's not too difficult to prepare the site and assemble the equipment," said Village Administrator Louis Cook.
The playground construction will not stop there, however. Planning Board Chairman Judson Pope said the village plans to keep building on the recently purchased equipment "in stages."
"The purchase of playground equipment was rather limited because the recreation area subcommittee did not get a request in to the planning board and on to the council in time to increase the budget line," Cook said.
The village plans to improve or build areas to benefit younger families as well as digging a new well, implementing new water systems for some properties and improving the dam to provide more efficient water release during high water periods.
