Less than 24 hours after hundreds of Goldsboro residents gathered on the steps of the Wayne County Courthouse to denounce violence, a Goldsboro man was killed, and another injured, in a shooting on Walnut Street.
City police found 28-year-old Marcus Antwon McKinnon, of Andrews Avenue, dead at 501 E. Walnut St. around 4:30 Sunday morning, after responding to a report of shots fired in the area.
Police Chief Tim Bell said McKinnon had been shot "multiple times" but that he was still waiting on the results of this morning's autopsy report to confirm the number of wounds.
Sgt. Chad Calloway said David Reid, of Walnut Street, was injured in the incident, but his condition was not serious.
Officials from Wayne Memorial Hospital confirmed that Reid had been treated and released but would not go into detail about the nature of his injuries.
A suspect in the shooting has been identified but Bell said no arrests will be made until he has had a chance to talk with officials from the district attorney's office.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers at 735-2255.
