Model plane training program kicks off July 14

Wayne Miniature Aeronautics of Goldsboro will its first ground school under the "Takeoff and Grow" program July 14.
The purpose of the "Takeoff And Grow" program is to expose people interested in aviation to a hands-on flying experience without having to make a sizable investment.
The Academy of Model Aeronautics, the National Association for all model airplane clubs sponsors the program. Wayne Miniature Aeronautics has been named as one of its "Takeoff And Grow" clubs.
As a "TAG" designee, the local club received two complete trainer aircraft, complete with radios and engines. The club also received two flight simulators which will be used to train people of all ages at no charge.
After a brief "ground school, "complete with flight simulator training, trainees will fly a radio-controlled model while a flight instructor stands by should something unexpected occur.
The first ground school under the TAG program will be held July 14 at Glenn's Hobby Corner in Rosewood, followed by actual flying with an instructor the same day at the club's airfield located off N.C. 581 North, just north of O'Berry Center on the right side of the road going north. The club will provide lunch for the youth and their parents.

A giant scale model airplane show will be held on July 21 at the airfield. Admittance is free to the public. Registration for future TAG schools can be done at the club's TAG booth at the show.
