Franklin's Recycling, with the help of the Wayne Solid Waste Department, will sponsor an electronics collection day from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday in the Sam's Club parking lot.

It's an event that has become very well-received in the community since it began in 2003, county Recycling Coordinator Simonne Cato said.

At the last collection, which was on Jan. 13, more than 37,400 pounds of electronics were collected.

"It's worked out really well," Cato said. "Consumers have gotten really aware of the problems with electronics and the hazardous wastes that are in inside of them and they really look forward to days when they can drop off these items."

Once the items are dropped off, she explained, the recycler will sort through the different materials, saving those that can be refurbished and breaking down the rest so the parts can be re-used individually.

Among the items that will be accepted are: answering machines, cell phones, telephones, circuit boards, fax machines, hard drives, keyboards, mice, monitors, pagers, computers, printers, scanners and typewriters.

Televisions and traditional white good appliances will not be accepted.
