Volunteers have raised enough money to send more than 50 girls to summer camp this year.

Coastal Carolina Girl Scout Council officials reported Friday that $12,000 was donated before and during a luncheon held May 9 at the Goldsboro Country Club. The event was organized by a small group of former Girl Scouts.

This was the first fundraiser of its type, said Duffy Fleming, who was one of the organizers.

Not a lot of girls are able to attend summer camp, she said, because it costs $225 for just one girl to attend camp for a week.

Donations are still being accepted. To help send a girl to camp, call the council office at 734-6231.
