Wings, a weekend camp for children who have lost loved ones through death, is being sponsored again this summer by Home Health and Hospice, Inc., or 3HC.

The camp is open to children ages 8-15 living throughout eastern North Carolina. It is held at Woodmen of the World campground in Dover and offers such amenities as bunk beds, hot showers, a cafeteria and a swimming pool.

The camp is held August 3-5 from 5 p.m. on Friday until families reunite for lunch on Sunday. Many of the activities center around dealing with grief, while also offering traditional activities such as campfires, interactive games, swimming and crafts.

Wings Camp gives the children the opportunity to acknowledge the deceased and the reality of his or her death, to ask questions, express their feelings and spend time with others with similar experiences.

Cost for the camp is $25 per child. Scholarships are also available.

A mandatory orientation for campers and guardians will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 4 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Goldsboro.
