Benefit raises $10,000 for PHS teen

PRINCETON -- A spaghetti dinner Saturday raised more than $10,000 to help send a Princeton teenager out of state for brain surgery.
Community response to the benefit dinner and silent auction held at Princeton United Methodist was "awesome," said Neva Worley, whose daughter, Lara, has been diagnosed with epilepsy.
The 16-year-old Princeton High School sophomore will travel with her family next month to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio to undergo brain surgery. The procedure, called a temporal lobectomy, is offered at only two hospitals in the nation -- one in Ohio, the other in Florida.
The family leaves for Ohio June 9.
Through the fundraising drive to help with the medical expenses, Mrs. Worley said the family met a Beautancus man who underwent the same surgery in Florida.
"He had supper with us tonight," she said after the event ended. "We got to ask him questions. ... He said, 'Your daughter is going to be just fine.' I think that's amazing, just wonderful."
