Stephanie Davis and Brittani Schultze, seniors at Charles B. Aycock High School, earned first-place honors and a $1,000 cash award during the DECA 2007 International Career Development Conference held recently in Orlando, Fla.
In the DECA/Otis Spunkmeyer Learn and Earn Event, students from around the world were tested on their marketing, sales and project management skills. Skills were measured through the development and execution of a sales project. A report of the chapter's activities was then submitted for competition.
To qualify for competition at the international event, students had to be top winners in their state competition. Stephanie and Brittani placed second in the state conference, held in Greensboro Feb. 28-March 3.
Other DECA students participating in the competition from CBA included Blake Vail and Nik Frederick, proficiency winners in the Travel and Tourism Team Event; Ashley Kemp and Lauren Taylor, who competed in the Public Relations Project; and Jacob Dewitt, who competed in Apparel and Accessories Management Event.
"Winning has been an amazing experience," Tammy Vail, marketing teacher and DECA advisor at CBA, said. "It was a goal accomplished because of a lot of hard work, dedication and teamwork from club members."
