Goldsboro residents might experience water woes today, as officials said a water line broke early this morning, affecting water pressure in some city homes.

City Manager Joe Huffman said he found out about the break at 5:30 this morning. Since that time, crews have been attempting to locate it.

"The city has a major water line that has been compromised," he said. "But I have some good people working on it, and I'm confident it will get fixed."

By 10 a.m., General Services Director Joe Sawyer said he believed his crews had located the site of the break along U.S. 70.

"Right now we're digging, and when we find it, we're going to get it fixed," he said.

Crews were to continue working this morning to ensure water service returns to normal sometime today, he added.

But when the problem is fixed, residents will likely see brown water coming from the faucets and might need to flush out their systems, Huffman said.

"When they recharge the line, there is likely to be a discoloration in the water," he said.
