Jet fuel and marsh water are siphoned from a hole left after a fuel bladder from a Seymour Johnson Air Force Base F-15E Strike Eagle detached and landed in the Morehead City subdivision of Blair Farms Monday. An external fuel tank, pylon and an inert training missile separated from the jet Monday and landed roughly 10 miles southeast of Cherry Point, base officials said. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. during a routine training mission and was noticed by the jet’s wingman as it happened. The Morehead City Fire Department and Carteret County Sheriff’s Office were notified and responded to the call. The material fell into a wooded area near several homes, but base officials said no one was hurt and no homes were damaged. The Strike Eagle involved was assigned to the 333rd Fighter Squadron.
