Princeton man dies in crash

PRINCETON -- A Princeton High School student died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 70 West and Old Cornwallis Road.
James Cook, 20, of 241 Old Pebble Lane, Kenly, died from injuries he received in the accident that occurred at 4:12 p.m. Two others were injured in the accident, but the names were unavailable at presstime.
The vehicle Cook was in collided with another vehicle pulling a trailer filled with farm equipment, sources said.
Troopers from the Johnston County Highway Patrol and members of Princeton Volunteer Fire Department, Smithfield EMS and Selma EMS responded to the scene.
"When we arrived, the westbound lane on U.S. 70 West was completely blocked," said Randy Jones, assistant fire chief for Princeton Volunteer Fire Department. "We had three people injured. We immediately started doing basic first aid and extrication."
Jones described the scene as "terrible."
He said when they got there all of the farm equipment spilled out of the trailer and onto the road. It appears that more vehicles were involved in the accident, but only two vehicles actually collided.
All three were sent to the hospital. However, details regarding their injuries were also unavailable.
Trooper Dwight Green is investigating the accident and was unavailable at presstime.
