Open house for new school of engineering Monday night

The county's newest high school will host an open house for parents and prospective students on Monday at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Goldsboro High School.
Gary Hales, principal of Wayne School of Engineering, called it an opportunity for parents and students to raise questions about the school, as well as tour the facilities.
Wayne School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for rising ninth grade students. Deadline for applications is March 31. They are available from the school system's Web site, www.waynecountyschools.org, or through high school guidance counselors.
This fall, the school will open with 100 seats available for upcoming freshmen from around Wayne County.
The registration period will be students only chance to apply to attend the school next year, Hales said.
"As part of the core requirements of this program, the school will only take rising freshmen who are ready to complete their high school career immersed in science, technology, engineering, and math," he said. "This means no high school students will be allowed to transfer to the school, and rising ninth-graders who miss the registration deadline will miss the opportunity to be a part of this innovative and exciting educational opportunity."
