MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College Recital Series will present Oni Buchanan in concert on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rodgers Chapel. Buchanan, a concert pianist and a published poet will be performing her "Poetry in Piano" program, which examines the relationship between poetry and works for piano.
Ms. Buchanan is currently on the piano faculty at the New School of Music in Cambridge, Mass., in addition to maintaining a private piano studio and serving as an online poetry mentor for the Anna Akhmatova Foundation. She has received numerous awards for her poetry, most recently the 2006 Stanley P. Young Fellowship in Poetry from the Breadloaf Writers' Conference.
The recital series is an opportunity for the college to bring professional musicians to the campus, to perform not only for students but also for the surrounding community.
The college plans to have four recital series concerts each year, offering a variety of artists such as concert pianists, string quartets, jazz ensembles, opera singers, and chamber music ensembles. The event is free and open to the public.
An offering will be taken to support upcoming events of the recital series. For more information, contact Dr. Watson at 658-7166 or e-mail bwatson@moc.edu.
