Goldsboro residents might notice a different taste to their water for the next few days, but officials said there is no reason to be alarmed.

Due to a state requirement, all water systems feeding chloramine disinfectant are required to switch back to "free" chlorine for at least 3 to 4 weeks each year.

State health officials believe that it is a good idea that "free" chlorine is in contact with all of the distribution lines each year for a few weeks because "free" chlorine is a stronger disinfectant than chloramines.

Public Utilities Director Karen Brashear said the water is completely safe to drink.
